Global Turf is a large independent seller and exporter of new and pre-owned turf management machinery used by country clubs, resorts and sports fields worldwide. They ship products of any size to customers in all 50 states and over 80 countries.

Global Turf hired Big Sea, a marketing and design agency, to create a new, conversion-friendly Shopify website. Part of the project required a complex integration with their ERP, where they managed hundreds of thousands of parts and their inventory. Shopify is not known for its ability for complex customizations, so Big Sea turned to Pineapple Development to solve the problem.

Teamwork & Collaboration

Challenge: Three developers on three separate teams mean there were many opportunities for miscommunication and ego-based over-engineering.

Solution: Our development team joined the communication platforms, stand-ups, and operating processes guided by the marketing agency. The developers from Pineapple, Big Sea, and Global Turf worked closely to co-architect a collaborative solution that ultimately exceeded the client’s expectations.

Multi-platform Integrations

Challenge: With over 360,000 parts, managed in two separate systems, neither of which integrate natively with Shopify, there was no way to create new products, update prices or descriptions, or manage inventory in the online store.

Solution: Our developers created a middleware app that connects the client’s ERP inventory and look-up systems for a seamless front-end experience for their customers. Global Turf was using Ideal Dealer Management software for inventory management and wanted us to implement PartStream to create a user-friendly product look-up tool to help browse through the 360,000+ parts available.

Challenge: With a robust inventory of over 360,000 SKUs, finding the right part is laborious for both the user and the platform.

Solution: The Pineapple team developed a fast and frustration-free search, sort, and filter capability that responds quickly to user input and delivers accurate, fast results.

Product Schema Design

Challenge: Different products have different rules, with some products in their inventory not allowed to be sold online.

Solution: We built a complex filtering system and faceted search that integrated products from different channels and also created custom rules for multiple sales channels due to different manufacturer’s standards regarding selling parts online.
